Food Wave Challenge
Moving towards a sustainable global food system by 2030.

Food Wave is an international project which aims to increase awareness, knowledge, and understanding of sustainable methods of food production and consumption for climate change mitigation and adaptation. Young people involved in the project will be supported to take action in their cities, involve their communities and influence institutional decisions, thus becoming integral actors and voices in the move towards a sustainable global food system by 2030.

The project is co-funded by the EU and promoted by the Municipality of Milan together with ActionAid Italia, ACRA, Mani Tese and 30 project partners in 17 countries.

CALLING ALL VLOGGERS, FILMMAKERS & ACTIVISTS AGED 16-21

ARE YOU:

INTERESTED IN FILMMAKING?

PASSIONATE ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT?

LOOKING FOR NEW CHALLENGES?

What is the Food Wave Project Challenge ?

We are looking for 6 dynamic young people, aged 16-21 and based in London, who are passionate about reducing food waste, increasing recycling and tackling climate change to join us for a filmmaking project exploring how to apply this in our every day lives. This is the perfect opportunity for activists, vloggers and filmmakers who want to make their voices heard and raise awareness to their peers and/or online community.

For this project participants will be set a challenge that they must complete over the course of a week. These challenges will focus on things such as eating more healthily, choosing local and minimising waste asking questions like, where does my food actually come from? How difficult is it to buy food with less packaging? Is the increase of the vegan diet really all it’s cracked up to be?!

Applicants can apply as an individual or as a pair. Successful individual applicants will be paired together based on location to collaborate on the project.

How does the challenge work?

On the first workshop day participants will take part in a filmmaking workshop where they will be trained on the equipment and set their challenges for the week, apprentice style! During the challenge week (31st May-5th June) the YFA office will be in regular contact to offer support and guidance and we will then meet at the end of the week to chat about how the challenges went and hand over hard drives with your footage. YFA’s in-house editing team will then work their magic to turn the footage captured into a series of final film

As part of this project participants will also have a workshop with professional animator Tony Comley who will give a masterclass on how animation is used in documentary filmmaking. Participants will then issue a creative brief to Tony who will bring their ideas to life as part of the final films.

As part of this project participants will receive:

  • Filmmaking workshops during the project week by YFA’s industry professional filmmakers
  • Mentorship and support during the project week
  • A workshop with animator Tony Comley (Credits include Aardman, BBC & Netflix)
  • Access to professional equipment to document their journey
  • Showcase of their final film online to a global audience
  • A budget to fully explore their part of the challenge

Key Details:

First group workshop day: Saturday 29th May  2021

Challenge week: 31st May- 4th June 2021

Final group workshop day: Saturday 5th June 2021
