For young people who love films, whether it’s creating them or acting in them, YFA’s all-inclusive Residential Filmmaking and Screen Acting Summer Camp is a dream come true: a chance to eat, sleep and breathe movies! The camp is held at Culford School, one of the UK’s leading boarding schools, and includes all board, meals, tuition, excursions, equipment and activities.

Students on YFA Summer Camp will divide into 2 crews: FILMMAKING CREW (for aspiring filmmakers) & ACTING CREW (for aspiring actors). Students choose which Crew they wish to join for the duration of their camp.
Each Crew will develop specialised skills in their own disciplines though practical exercises, workshops and masterclasses with film industry professionals. And because we passionately believe that the best way to learn to is get out there and DO it, the Filmmaking and Acting Crews will then combine in teams to work together for the production of the movies.
Each week of YFA Summer Camp culminates in a Premiere Screening of all the completed movies for friends and family in the onsite cinema. There’ll be a packed house, behind-the- scenes special features telling the real story of how that movie got made, and we’re guessing some blooper-reels too…
The Residential Filmmaking and Screen Acting Summer Camp is held at Culford School (2-hours from central London) one of the UK’s leading boarding schools, just 2 hours from central London.
It’s the perfect movie location to shoot an action, drama, horror, science-fiction, period drama and more! Your only limit is your imagination.
And when students aren’t on set, there’ll be oodles of great fun indoor and outdoor activities on offer for them to enjoy, including swimming, football, tennis, table tennis, basketball, dance, drama, film screenings, movie quizzes, talent show, excursions, competitions, games and more!
NIGHT PATROL is a 3-part series produced by the staff at Young Film Academy’s Residential Summer Camp 2019. Each episode was screened to the students after the Saturday night talent show!
Dear YFA team, Thank you Young Film Academy for giving me the opportunity to work with so many people who are as passionate about creating films as I am. I can honestly say that the last two years of YFA summer camps combined have been the best four weeks of my life. You have helped me learn so much about myself and realise that creating films is what I love doing!
“I just wanted to say a great big “thank you” to all the staff who made the YFA Summer Camp happen. My son Jalaal said it was the best week of his life and he wants to go back next year. I see such a difference in his confidence, his self esteem, and his aspirations for the future. We will be back next year…for three weeks this time!
Thank you so much for everything!
Dear YFA team,
I wanted to express my sincere thanks for the superb week Kai had while attending his first YFA Summer Camp. He learned so many facets of acting, but best of all, I think he realised the passion he really does have for screen acting. He made lasting friendships and was able to take away so many skills he can now use for future castings.
Thank you all so much for an absolutely incredible week with Young Film Academy. Sam has come home totally inspired and extremely keen to return next year! He has talked about every aspect of the course in great detail and has said it was everything and more than he hoped it would be!
As an amateur actor, this was his first opportunity to really hone his screen acting skills and he simply loved it, emailing me mid-week saying “please sign me up for three weeks next summer”.
Bravo to the entire team for helping to make dreams come true! We will see you again next year.”
Thank you so much to the incredible YFA team! We were looking for a summer camp in uk during the holiday for my boys to improve their English language and didn’t expect to find one that also include their love of film! PLUS it had lots of other activities. They made so many new friends and want to go back next year!
Jess loved the wide range of fun activities at your summer school. She’s been to lots of kids summer camps but none that gave her an idea of what she might want to do as a career. Apparently she’d like to pursue cinematography now!!! She also loved the wide range of other film departments she got to try at camp. Now she’d rather go to summer camp again rather than come on holiday with us next year. 😉
What can were say!?!? We were excited because everything on the website about the course looked great and Tom seemed excited about the camp. According to him this is the best residential summer camp in the UK he’s been to. Sadly he can’t go to summer camp all year instead of school. The English language lessons were also great and the staff were very friendly as we experienced on arrival.
We’ve sent Sam to lots of international summer school before, although most the time they are either “as boring as school” or “don’t have enough fun activities”. Not this summer school! Amazing that it was residential (accommodation was great) and also full of filmmaking activities. Sam is keen for more summer YFA adventures now. I guess that means no more adventure holidays for us as a family!
Summer Camp was great. Thank you to everyone who at YFA who made this the best summer holidays ever. Particularly Ed, or should I say Sir Quizalot! HAHA. Best summer camp ever! No more school please. Can you run summer camps all year round?
YFA’s Residential Summer Camp was great for my 12 & 16 year olds! Full of fun activities. Staff and fellow students seemed nice. The whole atmosphere felt like a joyous international summer school with the bonus of being residential and full of multi activity. Would come again.
Our family run a small film studio so we are always sceptical about film schools and camps however we needn’t have worried. My 13 year olds loved it! They seem even more excited about making movies than they did before going to residential summer camp.
Best summer of my life! Thanks for teaching me more than I could have learned in school at summer camp! I feel like I learned so much about filmmaking AND got to fo lots of other activities. Was like a holiday and a cool school. Not sure what else to say!?
Katherine has been to a few summer camps and summer schools in the summer holiday but this has been her favourite so far! Her tutor Dan had taught her on a different course which was nice for her but she had the best time and made lots of filmmaking friends. Thanks to everyone at the YFA residential summer camps team who made this so much fun.
We were looking on Summer Camps UK but somehowI ended up finding this and was over the moon. Even though I wasn’t sure I would love it (because I love movies but wasn’t sure about making them) I was excited about all the other activities. The school / learning days were super engaging and the evening activities made it feel like a holiday. Looking forward to the next filmmaking residential summer camp. Thanks YFA!
YFA’s Residential Filmmaking & Acting summer camp uk definitely beats summer school! Felt more like a holiday but I learned lots about things I was actually interested in like storytelling. Was nice being creative for a week (wish I stayed for 2 as the excursion activities looked fun. 🙁 The teachers were great. Massive shout out to josh and the camp social team including Amelia. What a summer!
I had the most amazing time at the residential summer camp! Was an amazing experience and one of the best camps I have been to. Thank you thank you thank you!!
No Camping ahaha . Much preferred this to tent stuff. Normal camps are boring. This was like school but if school was just fun. Was also easy to get to from Cambridge! Hope to spend the rest of summer making movies.
Thank you for the best Residential camp I have ever been too. I loved the filmmaking (even more than dodgeball and the other great activities 😉 )
Was funny watching my family run to make the screening. They are normally late for school stuff but I told them not to be late for this. Thanks to the whole Residential Filmmaking Summer School camps thingy team.
I thought it would be 24/7 films (although that wouldn’t have been a bad thing) but the other activities at camps were also great. Got to try yoga!!! Can’t wait to make more movies
WATER SLIDE!!!!! Woooo. Also got to do badminton. Was ready just to make movies but then all of this stuff was great. Full of fun activities!
